The first Monaco Grand Prix was run in 1929, and the formula has barely changed: a lap through the streets of Monte Carlo, past the harbour, the casino and the hotels, with barriers a few centimetres from the car.

It is the slowest and tightest circuit on the calendar, and still the one everybody wants to win. The hairpin, the tunnel and the harbour chicane punish every small mistake, and qualifying here matters more than anywhere else.
